Townes Site Engineering is seeking a Environmental Scientist II to join our team. The Environmental Scientist must be able to lead with the completion of wetland delineations, stream assessments, habit studies for threatened and endangered species, as well as, database research for Section 106 and Section 7.  The Environmental Scientist II will also be responsible for the preparation of 404 permits (Joint Permit Applications), wetland assessments and environmental support for land development, utility projects and civil engineering projects. Applicant will have knowledge of natural resource regulations, water quality regulatory programs, wetlands identification including knowledge of local botany and soil science, stormwater compliance and Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act compliance.  Applicant should also be efficient in stream evaluation, wetland restoration, mitigation, and nutrient credits. Experience with Environmental Phase I Site Assessments is a plus.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Environmental Science, Botany, Biology, Ecology, or comparable Natural Resources degree
  • 1-2 years of relevant field experience
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork with no supervision
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Desire to work in both an office environment and in the field

Licensed Surveyor or LSIT

We are currently seeking a Licensed Surveyor or LSIT to join our Chesterfield office.  The candidate will be responsible for client interaction, technical quality, and scheduling survey crews.  The successful applicant will manage/perform design related surveying projects using relevant software, including AutoCAD technology.  Projects may include boundary, topographical, construction stakeout, control networking, and high definition surveys.  The surveyor should be familiar with performing calculations using surveying formulas and will be supported by our team of licensed survey professionals.

Qualifications

Survey Crew Chief

  • Operate total station, level, RTK GPS receiver, and data collectors in performance of field surveys.

Construction Inspector

Geotechnical Office - Midlothian, VA

Townes Site Engineering is seeking a Construction Inspector Grade-1 to join our Geotechnical Services Department.

A Construction Inspector Grade I will observe contractors on construction sites and perform basic field soil and concrete tests under the direction of other TSE technicians or engineering professionals to ensure that testing, sampling, or inspection is performed consistent with project specifications.

Responsibilities

The tasks may be required to perform include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing field materials testing of soil, asphalt, and concrete.
  • Preparing detailed and complete field reports with all relevant test results and observations provided.
  • Performing basic laboratory tests on soil and concrete and preparing reports of results.
  • Evaluating site conditions on construction projects and providing recommendations.
  • Communicating with clients, contractors, and engineering and technician staff regarding construction issues.

Qualifications

  • At least some construction experience is required. Prior experience in field testing is preferred.
  • A High School Diploma (or equivalent).
  • ACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, WACEL, or ICC certifications in the disciplines of soils, reinforced concrete, and, masonry are a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans specifications, safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • A problem solver who can deal with a variety of variables at once.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, make recommendations in the field, and to perform calculations for field and laboratory tests and equipment.
  • Must be able to work independently and within teams to achieve goals.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to walk and stand continuously through the day.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 70 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be willing to participate in and pass TSE pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening, and driving record.
